342 [is a nice number - well most of the 34xs are]

RI should really adopt the OWL approach to competitions.
as in "just go there have fun"
and I HATE that stupid argument writing diagram.

24 April 2009

y = sin x

meh I seriously have this feeling that life is totally a sine curve
cos like well about two weeks ago things were going very well and stuff
[e.g. winning geochallenge and all that]
and now things seem to be getting worse
1. screwed up chem quiz [that reminds me I need to go fight with KSP and demand that my graph is acceptable just that I can't seem to find the time]
2. screwed up 2 TAs in a row
3. my bio is dying
4. my hcl is dying [well actually it was already dead]
5. just had a not-so-good humans club meeting
6. batch CiP sign-ups = FAIL. [and that was something which I did.]

so yeah I am a bit quite down now - and it doesn't help that I have WSC tomorrow and I haven't even READ macroeconomics let alone done any of the homework.

and of course I have this feeling that my german is slipping too. plus I haven't even been doing my homework.

and to top it all off I haven't even had time to read airliners.net since like quite a very very very long time.

so I'm like screwing up pretty badly now.

well hopefully things pick up soon. I hope.
and I'm actually quite worried that I may screw up even further [especially with stuff like batch CiP or socdoc or ISP etc]

340

I have no idea why but now I'm finding it harder and harder to remain cheerful/happy and all that.

must be all the stress I think. meh.

22 April 2009

silver is the new gold!

seriously these few days have been quite depressing.
yes I know I [say that I] totally detest sports CCAs - but then when you have friends in these CCAs then yeah I do feel a little depressed.

and let's not talk about the MGs shall we.

but looking on the bright side of things this year might be the first year where the UGs get more golds than the sports. =D

and anyway I totally agree with what mrs nathan said today. yeah.

oh and I haven't posted in quite a long time cos I've been damn busy/tired.

2.4 was horrible. but managed 13:15 so yay! school:
math - zzzzzzzzzzzz. [as always]
chem - KSP spilled conc. NH3 on his hand. and well we've found a whole bunch of CUSHIONS/PILLOWS in the RA classroom [G2-08] which also happens to be the classroom for lit stuff. so we had fun throwing them around.

SS was quite interesting. but then quite depressing what with the singapore politics and censorship and all that.
hcl was fun. cos we were playing games - kinda like primary school stuff.
english was TALK. yay.
RE was more talk [with OWL] - and we're trying to get EC to teach us econs

zzz I'm sleepy shall post more tomorrow I guess.

18 April 2009

338/whatever

ORA was fun. kinda. well we were just walking about and talking. and folding cranes during the walk-a-jogathon. and listening to zhengyang/kohwenjun/[someone else, can't remember] talk about this chinese drama/TV show ALL THROUGHOUT THE WALK. meh.

then rushed down to RGS for some workshop by JGIS. and turns out that there were no girls there. meh. and the turnout sucked so seriously I shouldn't have gone but then since yak registered 5 people at least 1 guy had to go. meh.

so anyway school:
friday:
international friendship celebrations were a waste of time - we [i.e. me/wzy/darren/wesley/shawn tan/waichoong] were up on the gallery but since there weren't any seats left we sat on the steps all the way at the back [with mrs nathan]. and then EC came and took a table and sat on that. however since we were all blocked by the people seated in front we were standing most of the time.

anyway the celebrations were boring. hmm... the indian ones are ok [I mean it's bollywood - how bad can it be], and the china one STARTED ok but then after a while it just degenerated. malaysia was the same thing as last year. and the year before last - i.e. a skit. then during the finale [we are the world] the whole school was DAMN STONE.

PE was a waste of time - and I think I'm going to fail NAPFA. and seriously 4H is a PE teacher's nightmare - we were like slacking/fooling around/ignoring the relief's instructions etc.

HCL - NY wasn't there but we got some scary woman who told us to do our sihan. but then NY gave us all the points already so yay.

english - just talking. as usual. and a bit of writing [she wanted us to imitate dave barry's style but then left the topic wide open [since the original one was poverty and everyone complained] so like we had quite a few people writing about EC].

went down to viriya after that for cohort CIP briefing. then back to school with waichoong who went to meet the physRA people [cos they had a lecture in the evening] so we all went to J8 for dinner/lunch for me.

thursday:
math - BORING! [product rule? can't remember.]
bio was the usual. and from now on wesley's known as "Mr. Oxytocin" cos that's what he answers for all of mr law's questions asking for hormones.
english - talking again. about rhetorical devices. which reminds me I still haven't gotten that worksheet done.
CLE was spent putting up the cranes. which was FUN. especially since ryoji/welras have a patch of blue sky above them. or rather blue cranes. XD
CCK was ok just that I don't understand electricity. and he got DAMN PISSED WITH AARON.
chemRA was FAIL. and that quiz was horrible but I don't care - either way I'm going to fail kinetics/don't understand what KSP says.

whee.

17 April 2009

337

our class blog is WIN.

and I should stop swearing in french.

but then again I only use one word. XD.

shall post more when I feel like it.

16 April 2009

the good news is...

that my math is more than double my hcl.

the bad news, though, is...
that my math is more than double my hcl!

go figure.

anyway got back my PR1 like yesterday [and today] cos they reprinted all the PRs since some people [well actually quite a few] ended up taking both bio and bioRA and both chem and chemRA or even better bio/chemRP and RAs. so everyone got either russell's bioRA comments or aaron's chemRA comments.

so 49 for HCL [cos she didn't add in that zuowen T.T], 3.6 for bio thanks to that screwed-up practical, 3.6 for english [as per normal], and 4s for everything else. yay.

so overall 3.64 which is pretty good considering that wonderful 1.6 for HCL. =D in fact all my other subjects are like 1.5x that of HCL. meh.

and apparently EC thinks I'm very hardworking for math [which of course I'm not] - and seriously I don't even DESERVE that 100 XD.

meh shall post more later. and our class deco really PWNS.

14 April 2009

335

meh haven't posted in quite a while.

hmm school's been quite fun.
monday: first period HCL. zzz. then english - went to the [comp] lab to look up a whole bunch of figures of speech which are actually very interesting. just that I spent too much time browsing [like what I do on wiki] so I didn't even complete half the worksheet.

math - screwed up the TA, 100% long gone but I don't care. meh. and differentiation is actually quite fun cos for some strange reason I can differentiate without having to convert/rewrite everything as fractional/negative indices first. yay.

bio - presentations on kidney [which we all impromptu-ed]. so since we didn't actually KNOW anything about the kidney - must be some new teaching method I guess - we just smoked/used the phones of the CEP people to check wiki and stuff. but then again I can see the benefit of looking everything up first.

geo - relief teacher! and full monty is an interesting film just that the accents are quite incomprehensible.

ss - people were falling asleep just that NTL didn't mind cos she herself thought that the ppt/topic was very boring. and my finger is starting to hurt so I guess that means that I should stop banging on the keyboard. meh.

tues:
philo - hotel rwanda is a very good film. just that I got pulled out halfway for my dialogue ob. but it's still quite depressing.

hcl - zzz. was boring [as usual] - and I was cutting up duzhe to make paper with which we can fold cranes.
math - even more boring. but chain rule is damn cool. haha.

physics was quite incomprehensible. and chem was a WASTE OF TIME. just that rascal and I were pissing shaun off with our markers [read whatever you want into that line]

german was zzzzzz.

and now I think I ought to do my RE.

10 April 2009

334/ok I'm REALLY bored now

so yeah it's the third time today that I'm posting on this blog.

and I've finally decided that I shan't be lazy so I shall proceed to thank everyone who wished me a happy birthday.

so I believe the first guy was either wesley or huihao [can't remember] on the 6th. then like michael on facebook a day early, and ben on the tagboard one day early too.

then on the 7th itself: wesley on the way to morning assembly, huihao on the way back from morning assembly, I think darren and ben in class, and well a few more people in school - I think aaron. oh and the funniest thing in the canteen cos jack was like "is your birthday today" and I was like "dunno/maybe" then he was like "eh tell me" and all that. it's fun tricking people/pretending that it isn't your birthday.

oh and then after 3rdlang went back to school for RE ._. so anyway arun and huihao were there [and obviously huihao told everyone] so yeah.

and on FACEBOOK! so first were the 2 ACS(I)/ex-SHPS guys daryl [gaah I know too many daryls. and benjamins.] and kevin. then let's see jason, wesley [AGAIN], jack, daniel [ng, chemRA - wait the other daniel whom I know is also in chemRA], jim, ben [for the second or third time already], suwe, huihao [for like the third time already], semen/hymen/clement, diaozheng, yunfei and so on.

oh and thanks to ben for posting on the class blog. and on this blog too. [so that's a total of 4 times from him I think. =D]

oh and on the 8th brought the laptop to school so wished wesley's facebook a very happy birthday just before morning assembly. then rascal logged into facebook too and I koped his password. and yunfei updated his status for him.

oh and happy birthday to WESLEY AW MING XUAN. again.

and seems like a LOT of 4H people are born in april:

7th: ME!
8th: wesley
16th: junyang [well facebook says 18th but the list on the egroup says 16th so I'm not very sure]
17th: aaron
20th: waichoong
26th: diaozheng [well at least that's according to the list on the egroup too]

so altogether 6/32 [18.75%] of 4H in april - that's like more than double the number of birthdays that we're supposed to have - 1/12 is 8.33%, 30/365 is 8.21% - so yay. and they're like so CONSECUTIVE.

haha.

333

hmm so what did I miss
[it's kinda tough considering that I'm the only guy in 4H who actually recounts what happens every day]

well this week was actually a very good week

1. won geochallenge
2. [I think] passed hcl
3. 99.03 = 100% for math
4. 93% for chem
5. 92% for PHYSICS like wth
6. 85% for SS
7. somehow 19.5/25 for geog so I ended up scraping 4.0
8. managed to clear most of my overdue homework [heck CHAOS]
9. well this whole week was actually very slack/fun. in fact it's so slack that I have nothing to do now. yay.

hmm wed:
math was boring. differentiation is ugh just that I think differentiating using the FIRST PRINCIPLE is so fun cos it's bloody tedious. =D
chem was zzz. but quite funny cos like KSP sent everyone who didn't do their homework [i.e. including me] out of the class. just that he ended up sending at least half the class out so he told us to go back in. =D
SS - 17 for my essay [which was quite lucky cos like the way I did this essay [and actually how I do all my SBQs] was just to write one line, throw in all the case studies and then write a little bit more]
HCL - ._.
english became bio. which was really DISGUSTING [with mr law's remarks about egestion and all that.]
RE - WSC was quite ok. and art is interesting.

then thurs - more egestion for bio. SS just wrapped up that worksheet on active citizenry followed by socdoc discussion which was slack/fun.
chem in lab - lycopodium and elephant's toothpaste DEMO by mrs koh. which was totally unremarkable [considering that last year for raffles trail I did elephant's toothpaste at least 14 times.]
math - EC was quite pissed off. eh wait that was on wed cos he had to leave the class for about 20 min or something. and we're still quite behind time.
hcl was SLACK. cos we managed to convince NY to not do much today.

then after school - went to HML cos I had to meet darren at 4+ to go down to borders and he had guitar. so read a bit, watched guanlin get harassed by his sec1s, and then fell asleep. whee.

then woke up, went down with darren to borders, bought a few books and then met up with OWL and went for DINNER - i.e. a 3hr buffet.

which was quite fun. and I ended up reaching home very very late. zzz.

8 April 2009

332 - is a very nice number

[n.b. wanted to post this on the 8th but then some things happened so yeah I'm just post-dating this one. especially since I got back at 11 yesterday]

martin would like to thank all those people who wished him a very happy birthday [just that he's too lazy to list out everyone]

so anyway the 'main' ones: darren wesley wenghong ben jack/jim huihao [yeah and the rest of you guys it's not that you don't matter or something just that these few were the more memorable ones]

oh yeah and well of course I'd like to thank all those who didn't say anything at all - I'm sure I wouldn't miss you.

meh.

shall post more about school like later on. cos really for some strange reason I've nothing to do during this long weekend [except WSC stuff which makes me fall asleep and considering that I just woke up ._.]

hmm guess I'll be back on this blog sometime later tonight.

6 April 2009

331

bleh I'm really tired.

and for some strange reason I feel like learning hokkien.

and for some stranger reason [well actually it isn't strange at all - I'm just lazy] I don't feel like doing my elearning today.

in fact I feel like sleeping now.

which I will.

ugh what an anticlimax. bleh.

5 April 2009

wow.

hmm haven't posted in about 3 days.

friday - titrations were quite fun. just that well now I don't really care much about accuracy/not contaminating stuff cos no matter how I try I still manage to get stuff contaminated anyway. so I really don't bother washing the pipettes/burettes/conical flasks properly anymore. and most of the time I miss the end-point [i.e. adding too much instead of adding drop by drop - which is really tedious] but now I don't bother redoing and just take the reading. it's a very imprecise science anyway [at least with what we have].

pe - totally flunked tennis assessment. =D. but expected it anyway.

hcl - now she's demanding my second zuowen. zzz. but can't really remember what happened during the lesson anyway.

english - watched some videos/talked about tone/body language and people read that essay out loud. and wesley you read weirdly.

then afterwards skipped hcl remedial [again] to go for the homecreation briefing. which ended quite late so ended up rushing off to yak to meet some tupperware people for earth day [week]. zzz.

then geotrail prep - wasted a LOT of time talking/discussing. then got home at about 6 and then well slacked. and slept relatively earlier.

then saturday!

woke up at 530, managed to get to NUS by 745 [and OWL was late ._.]. then registration, geotrail briefing [which ended early] so they showed us some random youtube videos.

well on to the format of the trail

5[+½] hours - ½ for lunch; 15min grace period following which -½m for each minute late
5 stations
30min per station; 5 min grace period and -½ for every min late thereafter
flag off at 0915, 0930 and 0945 [3 groups of 10]

well first things first - assuming 30min travel between stations [highly improbable] and 30min at each station, then it'd take 5½h already: 5x.5 = 2.5h for all stations, then from NUS to station 1, station 1 to station 2 etc. 5x.5 = 2.5h also. and then of course station 5 BACK to NUS which would be around 30 min too. so altogether 5.5h - not even counting lunch! so it was of course no surprise that no team made it back on time - even with that 15 min grace period.

then... the stations were ordered 1>2>3>4>5, and with 10 teams in each cluster the first 2 would go to station 1 first, the next 2 to station 2 and so on and then follow the order.

so anyway we went to the starting point [and I was arguing with KLL about stuff] and were given our clue - which was damn obvious. but of course I didn't shout it out this time. then when they said we could go we all saw a 96 come so we all dashed across the road. and yeah.

anyway our first station was ACM. and we were actually allowed to go into the galleries! so we were the first team there - got off at raffles place, ran along the river and over the bridge - and then about 5 min later RV [which was the other team which set off at 0930 and went to our station] arrived. yay.

and even later HCI showed up too. so then we were quite surprised cos they started at 0915 so we thought that it was their 2nd station already. but then it turned out to be their first. O.o

then after that next station was tiong bahru market, so like train to tiong bahru and a short bus trip. there we saw quite a few teams so we thought that we were late. but turns out that tiong bahru was their first station. so yay. and this time I had to do the AQ and ended up writing rubbish.

then next station was botanic gardens. so took a LONG bus ride. and on the bus we met another team - but then BG was their second and our third station - but then again they were from the 0945 batch.

so went to the gardens, jaywalked in full view of the other team, got our questions - and this time I had to go find out the answers. so ran all over the place and was perspiring really badly when I got back. so anyway finished the station, then it was supposed to be the lunch break - it was structured in such a way that if say you finished station 3 at 1234, then even if you arrived at station 4 you wouldn't be able to start the station until 30 min later [i.e. 1304/when the lunch break was over]. however we used the lunch to travel and eat on the go.

so anyway next station was natl museum - so we had to take a bus. so while waiting for the lights to change we saw the bus arrive. we had to wait cos it was a major intersection and couldn't jaywalk, but the moment the lights turned we dashed across the road.

but then so happened that there was ANOTHER set of traffic lights [instead of what would normally be a zebra crossing] and those lights hadn't changed yet - so half of our team ended up just running across. and almost being knocked down. so we missed our bus and waited about 10 min for the next one ._.

well we kinda got lost at the natl museum part, so we ended up on fort canning and had to use the back entrance. so at the museum we were again surprised that we were allowed into the galleries. but seriously the museum was very cool [both literally and figuratively].

then final station was bras basah complex. so we decided to walk/run there [but then halfway gave up and ended up taking a bus. for one stop.] so as we approached the station the stationmaster was on the phone and he was like "a team has just arrived for their fourth station" or something like that and I said no fifth and he was like shocked.

so we did the station. then took a train back and got off at buona vista.

and guess what? spent about 10-15 min waiting for 95. which ended up being filled with AT LEAST 10 teams. gaah should have taken 96 from clementi.

so anyway after that we all squeezed into the bus. then at the final bus stop everyone got off and ran. so well SCGS had a headstart being at the exit, but then I managed to overtake them and was the first of that whole crowd of people to reach LT11. then ran to the tables and submitted the timesheet and stalled for a while while waiting for the rest to arrive. so the rest of the teams had to queue behind us. =D

then well met OWL [who bought us food] and then went to get changed for grand finals.

but first there was geoad voting. which was zzz cos ours didn't seem to be very good. and halfway when they were screening the geoads this guy came up to me and asked me [or a representative from our team] to meet him outside the LT later on. which got me a little worried. then turns out that we got into the finals [along with ACS(B) - ACS(I) didn't even qualify for the final round - and NUSHS. which was quite a good thing considering that RGS wasn't in the finals too.]

then final round - format was as follows:

each team was to send 3 reps on stage, then the first representative from all the teams were to go up. then the first school's rep would pick a category and all 3 had to answer that question. then the second school's rep would pick another category and so on.

then once the 3 questions were done the first school had to present their geoad.

then the second representative from all the schools were to go up etc.

then the second school had to present and so on.

so it happened that we were the 3rd school. yay.

so our first rep happened to be KLL. so after the first set of 3 questions the score was tied with all schools at 40.] then NUSHS presented and when we heard their presentation we weren't that worried. cos it turned out that the other 2 schools didn't prepare while for us OWL was like forcing us to do a script just in case we got in. but either way we forgot the script when we were on stage.

then darren went up and then did quite well, now it was NUSHS 40 ACS(B) 60 RI(S) 60 [and really it was funny going up to the stations during the trail and telling the station masters that we were from RI (Secondary)]

then ACS(B) presented - which was better than NUSHS.

then I went up. so I got the first 2 questions wrong T.T [well so did the guy from ACS(B) and NUSHS got 1 right] - so going into the last question it was 60 to all schools.

well just so happened that the last question was GIS. which was like ugh. but then when I saw it the answer was kinda obvious. =D. so flashed the answer, and all 3 teams had different answers and so happened that - mine was correct. yay. so final score RI 80 ACS 60 NUSHS 60.

then we presented - I was quite nervous and apparently everyone was laughing cos I was shifting my weight but I think we did quite ok. and Q&A from judges went relatively well.

then PRIZE PRESENTATION.

wait audience round first - which was quite funny - to answer the question you had to call the emcee's handphone. so apparently some people were smsing him and stuff. but the questions were ._.

then the prize presentation - first were indiv awards for prelim rounds - RI had 3 people placing 2nd for the MCQ round - but then there were 5 2nds and 1 first.

then awards for the application question.

then prizes for geoAd. and so like we didn't get most popular or special mention [as expected] - but then shockingly for the top 3

3rd went to I THINK CHIJ. then 2nd was ACS(B). so anyway since we all thought ACS(B)'s and NUSHS's GeoAds were quite good. and both got into finals. so we all thought NUSHS was going to get first for geoAd. but NO. turns out that the judges liked our advertisement so much that we ended up getting first. so no one was prepared to go up and get the prizes etc.

then next were geotrail prizes - HCI got 3rd [although they only had 11 min for their last station and that would mean that they had 15min to get back to NUS], we got 2nd although I thought that our AQ bombed due to the bad handwriting and all that smoke - and we weren't very creative - but thankfully the answers to the factual questions could be found in the locations [omg just discovered that I've spent 40 min on this post] - so yay. oh and we managed to save quite a bit of time by running from place to place and at quite a few stations took like 35 min for the task - cos we wrote too much and all that - but we spent at least 30 min at each station [compared to some other teams] so we did have a slight edge there. and yeah NUSHS won geotrail.

then yeah prizes for finals, so NUSHS 3rd, ACS 2nd and RI(Secondary!) 1st - for the first time in 5 years.

yay. but actually we were quite lucky for the finals - e.g. if we had faced RG/NY/HC/SC then we might not have gotten first - but then again thanks to our geoad and geotrail - yay.

so anyway now the pressure's on next year's batch. ha.
