spent I think the last 4 days slacking after my job ran out.
lol.
don't exactly have any idea what I'm going to write here since really the only reason why I'm typing is cos 1 I don't feel like sleeping right now 2 I've run out of things to do already and 3 haven't posted in more than a week.
spent the past few days on stuff like 9gag / cracked.com / nytimes.com and other online stuff. reading.
need to get a few good books to read I guess. and actually get down to reading them. and use my 2-year-old kino voucher.
but thing is well when I read what I tend to do is skim. which can cause me to miss entire sentences / paragraphs (seriously). which is bad.
and I have no appreciation for lit or good writing or whatever you call it. so I mainly read stuff with interesting plots .-.
which frustrates some people to no end.
I'm shallow like that ok?
so anyway kevin sim has been trying to get me to read stuff like dickens and I'm like ew no way. although I might try sth like jane austen / one of the brontës if I'm really that bored. lol. but probably won't get much out of it.
anyway finished fellowship and two towers in 4 days. yay.
but couldn't start on return of the king before I had to return the books to the SFL. even though I think I had the time / could have finished it (except for the appendices though).
(yeah the last books I borrowed from the school library were tolkien)
maybe cos it really isn't a very good idea to cram the first 2 books in 4 days. especially since how they're very dense and stuff (well to me at least). what's the word for it. rich? dunno. a lot of details. overwhelming (maybe?). I have no idea.
and also maybe cos I've read it so many times that I kinda know what's going to happen anyway. and was so tempted to skip / skim the entire of book 4 (i.e. the second half of the two towers) since it's bloody boring. but I didn't!
*reminds self that middle-earth doesn't really exist in the real world so stop trying to escape there or sth. you're stuck in singapore damnit.
ok rant over.
and speaking of books and stuff I am damn irritated that the movie based on one of john le carré's books (which I actually have read and liked quite a lot) is only being released in singapore in FEBRUARY NEXT YEAR. when it was like released in the UK in september and in the US a few days back (which is why I've read all the reviews on the relevant news sites already). and it's 86% on rotten tomatoes so it can't be bad.
although I think the movie doesn't do the plot justice since they compressed everything into 2 hours but whatever.
and also want to watch the muppets (97% on rotten tomatoes o.o).
eh wait it just got released in singapore. how interesting. I was somehow under the impression that it was only coming out in january. but whatever.
ok I think I shall go watch it tomorrow with bessie.
yay found something to do.
ok I think this post is long enough.
and it's still vaguely school-related so I shall tag it as such. yay.

427 / the shadow of the past
re-reading tolkien again.
for I think the 4th or 5th time this year. lol.
4H gathering today.
which in my opinion didn't go very well.
maybe cos welras decided yesterday afternoon to meet up today. and then outsourced everything to me ._. so I didn't quite have the time to round everyone up and stuff.
so unsurprisingly only about a third of the class showed up. blah welras this is all your fault.
but then again I dunno at the same time it was rather disappointing not only because turnout was crappy but also maybe cos things weren't how I expected them to be anymore.
well fine more than that I think. more like there was something missing from today. spirit? I have no idea.
like I dunno everyone has changed way too much over the past 2 years andmaybe they no longer are what they were like in sec4 when we left RI.
so perhaps I shouldn't have gone there expecting things to be as they were 2 years back.
and maybe with time I tend to forget all the bad stuff about people and only remember good / better things so like when everyone does actually meet up again and you realise that your impression of them / the way you remembered them no longer holds well things will definitely disappoint. blah.
so maybe I should stop complaining about my current class as well. and stop reminiscing about (romanticising?) stuff that has long gone and that will never ever happen again. no matter how hard we try.
people change too much with time.
and inevitably grow apart from each other.
we can't get things back the way they used to be anyway.
so really why dig stuff up and spoil things. hmm.
blah ok should stop emoing. and I realised I was very incoherent above.
and fine things aren't that bad lah some people are still the same as they used to be and still quite fun. but then I've (inevitably) grown distant with some others.
but I think class spirit is definitely gone. or at least things feel different now.
sigh.
and hm I think I'm gonna stop blogging once march 2012 comes around.
not like there's going to be anything very interesting happening after that lol.
wonder if I'll hit 500 posts by then.
and then may or may not continue in 2014 when I ORD.

426 / and if I never see you again
so it ended yesterday lol.
chem paper 1 didn't go very well. blah.
maybe cos I wasn't thinking much. or not reading questions properly. as usual.
but who cares everything's done!
doesn't quite feel like it though. maybe cos I've started slacking once GP / physical geog were over. lol.
yeah seriously spreading out papers over 4 weeks is quite irritating.
went for class dinner after chem. spent close to like 3hrs sitting in LJ and talking lol.
pity it was with the wrong class.
ahem.
anyway just realised when leaving school after chem / going home from dinner that well after yesterday and apart from one day in march next year it's very likely that there're going to be people whom I may never meet again for the rest of my life. what with NS and people heading off all over the world for uni - and since I really doubt there'll be a 2Q reunion (or for that matter a complete 4H reunion) to speak of in the future anyway. also there's no such thing as a S06 RA get-together right. lol. so odds are that well apart from the occasional fb status update here and there I won't really see some people anymore.
which is quite a scary thought.
but inevitable I guess.
but then one never really knows who you might bump into many many years down the road.
hopefully people still remember me though XD.
ok well now that As are over nothing much left to do I guess.
but wait.
seems like I keep spending my life waiting for things - application results, A level results, enlistment, ORD, uni - that just underwhelm when they actually do happen.
maybe I'm doing something wrong here. I don't know.
all this anticipation is really overrated.
and if you go read a few posts down about me talking about prelim results... well.
ahem.
ok I guess this is long enough and I'm running out of things to say anyway. blah.
so really all of you whom I've met in these 6 years in RI/RJ and who happen to chance upon this - well it's been nice knowing you. even if we don't see each other ever again (apart from march next year and then you never know since there are what 1200-odd people in the hall anyway so we might not even bump into each other then) hopefully you'll still remember me. lol.
but then again I think something we all fear is irrelevance - of being forgotten and cast aside / left behind - as the rest of the world goes on without us.
and the world's a pretty large place anyway. so how do we matter eh. thus I don't know if that kinda diminishes whatever I've said above. but I guess it's true I hope I've been able to at least leave people with something.
I don't know.

42 more hours.
really really really bored today. and yesterday. and the day before that.
so maybe that's why I'm blogging again.
spent the past few days reading very many articles off longform.org. which is actually a rather fun site. it's like a tumblr for feature articles and stuff. but rather US-centric though.
just that my eyes get tired after reading for very long. and it's rather irritating to scroll back 30-odd pages to get to the page where I last stopped.
no idea what to do now.
can really taste the freedom just waiting for me but then again I don't even know what I'm going to do with the next 3 months free.
really need to find something to do with my life.
lawrence suggests learning / taking up something. but knowing me I'll give up less than halfway in.
I'm too lazy already.
maybe I should get back to playing emerald on vba. but thing is the previous game that I started got wiped when my com died in october so don't really feel like starting all over again lol.
listening to dire straits on youtube again.
can't decide if that or journey's better lol.
speaking of being lazy I know I should stop using it as an excuse to not do things. and really put myself to doing actual work for once. but. I'm too lazy. XD
and I have this feeling being lazy is nature's way of levelling the playing field lor.
...
who am I kidding really.
oh just realised I haven't checked cracked.com today.
and I realised in like 2 days time I can't really tag all my posts as school anymore. XD

and it's over!
well almost. no more writing at least. lol.
and I can so taste the freedom ahead.
well fine actually I was so slacking ever since last week. oops.
like only started mugging for human geog at like what 5pm last night. lol. but whatever it's over! and hopefully I did myself justice on the paper.
wasn't quite satisfied with my answers though. but then again I hardly ever am. so whatever.
can't believe that like 11 papers are gone and there're just 2 left. wonder how I even made it through these 3 weeks lol.
and seriously the papers are way too spread out. but whatever.
no idea what I'm gonna do post-As though.
hm.
I feel sleepy.

no more math for the next 2 years!
8 more papers left.
math was kinda fun actually.
and somehow my paper 1 went a lot better than paper 2.
maybe cos I was kinda falling asleep while trying to do p2. and the questions were rather irritating so somehow felt like giving up halfway. which was weird.
so I ended up sketching the same graph 4 times cos I kept messing up the sketch. and then did integration 4 times as well since my algebra kept failing and I kept losing track of my - signs. so yeah took about 1h30 for pure math in paper 2 ._.
(well at least in the end I think I did get everything correct there. I hope.)
but messed up q12 due to misreading and not really thinking properly. maybe cos I so wanted the paper to end.
slacked the whole of yesterday. oops.
and I'm going for camp tomorrow. like before physics. oh dear.
ok time to memorise stupid definitions. and hope the paper's as easy as our prelims lol.

two more gone, ten left.
GP was a complete disaster.
didn't know what I was writing for my essay.
hopefully the bell curve saves me - but then seeing how AQ and summary were very straightforward I wonder what'll happen.
and interestingly the more math I do the worse I get.
blah. back to vectors.

421/the beginning of the end
one down; twelve more to go.
and I only started mugging yesterday!
but I realised my exam timetable is very nice I don't have any days with double papers (except GP of course).
maybe that's why I've been slacking so much.
but then again chem today wasn't half bad - and was actually rather fun.
like the tough / irritating questions were more than balanced out by the very very easy ones. lol.
so yeah maybe I shouldn't have worried so much.
now for GP tomorrow. and I think I'm falling sick. bleh. and I realised I haven't done any GP since august.
hopefully the questions are nice to me tomorrow.
everyone's telling me not to worry for GP, that I'll do fine etc. - maybe I will. and everyone was telling me to not worry for chem either XD
and I don't really feel like cramming trivia now. blah. and you can't really mug for GP I guess. just go in calm enough and things should work out fine.
yeah but the problem is going in with a calm mind / clear head. lol. especially since I think I'm falling sick. blah why does this keep happening with every major exam this year lol.
sigh most probably gonna sleep in 30 min or something.
but hmm chem marks really the beginning of the end of JC / school life in general. part of me still can't quite fathom that I've already gotten to this stage - that now everything's over and all that's left is this final final final stretch - that our education system's supposed to have led us to. (well of course it isn't the be all and end all of everything but it's still important ENOUGH. although less important than prelims imo lol). and even kevin sim has taken to scaring me about my A level grades since I've been slacking so much ._.
but really quite surprised that after all these 6 years in RI/RJ I'm finally here - at the end. and so not quite ready for what comes next.
oh dear.

hmm haven't posted in very long.
and I realise I've got nothing to do tonight / tomorrow / sunday / monday / tuesday / wednesday.
so maybe that's why I'mwriting blogging now.
hmm so what happened - "farewell" assembly was exactly a week ago. real lessons ended what a week before that.
and before we know it we're hurtling towards As and NS and the other 3/4ths of our lives already. as astee pointed out in the last chem lecture.
and I'm still feeling totally unprepared / not ready to face up to these things.
and still can't quite believe that like my time in our education system is almost over.
time passes too quickly - can still remember my first day in RI. and in RJ. (can't quite remember most of the lessons in sec1 / j1 though). and really I still haven't wrapped my mind around the fact that it's been 6 years already.
doesn't quite seem/feel like it. and it still hasn't really sunk in yet.
oh well. enough of boring stuff already. and I suspect I'm becoming rather incoherent. which is why I'm so not a writer just a mere blogger.
and speaking of writing my admissions essays are proving to be rather disastrous.
somehow I can't seem to write those deep / insightful / multi-layered (?) essays that everyone else has been churning out. but then again it's not like I particularly enjoy reading them. especially since after the 10th one or so they all seem all too similar already. and I usually end up giving up after the 2nd paragraph or so when reading them. or I need to re-read the things twice or thrice since they all get pretty boring and very dense as things move along. but then again I'm not a very good writer and as ks puts it I have no literary skill whatsoever.
and I so agree since I only read plot-driven novels and nothing much else.
oops.
but yeah somehow I find myself rather unable to write anything vaguely resembling these things - perhaps I'm too obtuse / direct / whatever. I'm guessing the problem with me is that I tend to see things as they are and nothing much more (maybe that's why I could never get lit) - which is proving to be very irritating right now when I'm supposed to write essays with personal voice and whathaveyou. and I have no idea how to get this bloody thing across. thus I really wonder if I can get anything out by the 1st. of january next year.
or I might as well go NUS. or somewhere in the UK where they don't really care so much about your essays. blah. I'm too lazy already.
anyway apart from that nothing much else - school's incredibly boring nowadays. and my timetable has been extremely empty as well. mainly cos I can't be bothered to start on revision. and I've been skipping all the mock papers I've signed up for. oops.
but on the brighter side of things I've been eating a lot / going all over the place for lunch and sometimes dinner these few weeks. lol. and I've all but given up on clearing NAPFA anyway. and speaking of NS they still haven't given me a PES status yet even though my PES D only lasts until 4/10. and I went for the medical checkup on the 11th (and did you know MINDEF pays 300 bucks for every single scan they have us undergo thanks to the wonky ECG machine in CMPB) and wasted 3 hours or so. and they didn't find anything wrong (as expected). but thanks to government efficiency I'm guessing CMPB still doesn't know anything so if this keeps up I get to go in in march. and if I feel like clearing NAPFA next year I can enter in may. lol.
but also on the 11th I think I went to yishun for the first time in my life. didn't quite like the place though. but the weather was nice.
anyway I should really start mugging soon. but then again there's always the power of the bell curve plus there are no numbers on your result slip for As anyway. or notice board outside the SAC.
lol.
ok I think this post is of a sufficient enough length.
and I'm getting bored ofwriting typing as well. hm.

I'm dying of boredom here.
maybe that's why I'm posting. lol.
tuesday - woke up at 11am. then went to NUS for a boring talk. blah.
wednesday - went to school! for what I also dunno. so slacked in the library for quite a bit. then got summoned by KS ._. but was quite interesting listening to him interrogate gxz again.
thursday - woke up at 11am yet again. stayed home and did nothing the whole day.
friday - went to school again for no reason. so loitered around and got laughed at by mr lu who insinuated that I messed up geog or something. blah. then went to plan november camp so at least thankfully most of the acts are up by now.
today - woke up at 11am again ._.
ate breakfast and then had lunch 2 hours later. and now I'm wondering what to do again (maybe that's why I'm blogging now).
and given what happened on friday I so don't want to go to school on monday / don't want next week to start. blah.
hence it's quite ironic that I'm dying of boredom right now.
oh yay it looks like it's going to rain.
hmm what else - now I wonder what I should be doing right now.
I guess I could continue with emerald. hmm. but played it once through already last year so now things are getting a bit boring.
ah yes there's always cracked.com
maybe that's why I'm posting. lol.
tuesday - woke up at 11am. then went to NUS for a boring talk. blah.
wednesday - went to school! for what I also dunno. so slacked in the library for quite a bit. then got summoned by KS ._. but was quite interesting listening to him interrogate gxz again.
thursday - woke up at 11am yet again. stayed home and did nothing the whole day.

lessons learnt from chem p1 today:
1. read question carefully.
2. don't be lazy and eyepower the options
3. read question very carefully.
4. never ever underestimate my stupidity.
5. if you spot a trick and tell yourself to watch out for it most likely you'll still get tricked anyway ._.
basically somehow I managed to misread q38 (which of the following reaction schemes will give the following ester) as which of these reactions will give AN ester. and somehow I didn't even see the desired ester below and only managed to see the options. hmm.
then another question arranging from most to least basic (i.e. they asked for decreasing Kb) I ordered them by least to most basic and then forgot to reverse the order. blah.
also screwed an electrochem question by just assuming stuff and being lazy to do calculations and check the other options.
and got tricked by NaBH4 and ketones again (that question I have no idea what I was doing. oh dear.)
but whatever prelims are finally over. so like one month of freedom for now. yay.
just that I have the whole week off school and I have no idea what I'm going to do. so I'm just lying around at home reading stuff now. and I'm bored already even though chem ended at 915 and I got home at 12-ish.
sigh.
and papers coming back next monday. oh dear.
got a bad feeling for phys geog GP again.
zzz.
ok we'll see how things go.
now what to do for the next 8 hours before I sleep ._.

hmm I'm posting again!
although I don't quite know what I'm going to write about. just bored and with nothing to do I guess.
and it's a bit too early to be sleeping.
and I so don't feel like mugging for physics MCQ.
anyway I messed up papers 2 and 3 so no point aiming for dean's anyway so who cares. should be a safe enough A either way.
hmm chem p2 was rather fun. just that I messed up my alpha helix again. blah.
pharm chem was ow. ran out of time cos I wasted too much time reading / picking questions. so missed one mechanism and 1 NMR elucidation. but the paper was kinda fun (especially wty's question which just looked scary but was actually quite doable. unlike some others which looked horrible and were also icky). so I skipped the bio / essay question on drugs which was actually the one that would take the least time (ironically enough) so didn't manage to finish at the end.
and I had a lot of fun sorting through my scripts since they were all in a mess and I didn't number the questions very properly so I held everyone up and eventually astee just gave up and skipped me. oops.
anyways have been spending the past 2 days in the library reading! so finished the first 4 books of the h2g2 trilogy. and spent a lot of time loitering around school as well. it's so funny to see all the j2s being replaced by yr5s mugging. and they're so much more hardworking than us ._. like the library was damn crowded today even though promos for them are like still relatively far away.
ok whatever.
bored.
sec3s are damn irritating still and keep ignoring me / whatever I tell them.
meh.
but whatever I'll be gone very very very soon. it's been a long 2 years already.
tired.

yeah I'm finally updating.
don't know why though. maybe cos I'm really bored.
also since all the major papers are over already.
can't believe I actually got through the last 2 weeks heh.
mugging / cramming 2 years' worth of work (I can't believe how much math I forgot already ._.) + random visits to kevin sim during the hols (it's fun listening to people talk lol) + POC prep and everything.
and then this week's papers were also rather crappy - physics dropped 12 marks (in a 72 mark paper) due to stupidity and stuff. then chem -7 for forgetting that H2/Ni and NaBH4 can whack carbonyls. and -3 for stupidity. and -2 for unit conversion errors again. blah.
then human geog picked both essays wrongly so kinda ran out of things to write again.
math I was ok (thankfully). just that I didn't bother with the shangyi question.
then friday - 6 hours in ISH. math II was fun! and geog I don't think I did myself justice on the DRQs since I forgot most of my key words. but then I realised I'm very bad at memorising things so whatever. and my essays weren't very long either. so I had 10 min left at the end of the paper (and for geog every minute counts). So I asked for a world map! yay. cheng was so shocked / confused when I did. hmm.
also my pencilbox is too messy already. should clear some things out of it.
blah so not expecting much from prelims. last year's results were anomalous really. so yeah everything should be easy As but percentile-wise - not expecting much. and there's always GP. blah.
anyway then after everything on friday it was POC.
2nd one that I actually attended (I skipped most of my own ceremony in '09 since it clashed with german prelims).
can't believe that 2 years have passed so quickly already.
and I don't know I'm not one who says much or says things very well so I don't think I'll be able to encapsulate everything I'm feeling right now / yesterday in words.
yeah but essentially thanks guys for everything you've done and I'm glad everything went well.
(as in everything these 2 years; the ceremony yesterday was fail. blah. should have stepped in sooner / more)
so I can't quite wrap my mind around the fact that another batch has gone / taken over and that 2 years have passed already. also that in a sense not only is 59 leaving but I am as well - so really it was also somewhat my own POC all over again. so like all these hours I've put in over these 2 years - all the late nights, the meetings on weekends, the wasted opportunities elsewhere, all the emailing when I should have been doing work / mugging - it's all over now.
and I don't know what to say about it. (to paraphrase TPL)
not sure whether I'm relieved / content / happy / sad / just tired / all of these and some more. don't know if all this was worth it in the end. or whether it even meant anything at all. or maybe I still haven't gotten past the realisation that everything's over / ending already. including my life in RI / RJ.
maybe that's why I didn't say much yesterday.
ah well it'll hit eventually.
but right now I'm just in some sort of limbo - tying up loose ends / getting things ready for next year - when I won't even be there since I'll most likely be stuck in tekong from december on - and just going through life not knowing what will happen after As.
so ultimately what does everything this 6 years add up to - I don't know.
don't know why though. maybe cos I'm really bored.

yay new comp!
and I realised I haven't posted in a while.
damn lazy argh.
maybe also cos I've been very distracted by the elections and whatnot. lol.
I shall not post political commentary here. cos seriously there's no point and I'm way too tired.
neither shall I attempt to pick up from where I left off in the previous post cos really I can't remember. oops. and it's been so long anyway.
plus it's also so bloody hot now that I don't feel like doing anything at all.
must be the weather telling us to REPENT.
grah.
ok so basically in that post-chemO period mainly just went about my normal life - getting home early and slacking. managed to finish quite a few books along the way. bill bryson is good. but I realised I can't do lit lit and instead go for more of things with an interesting plot.
yeah I'm shallow.
however just as I thought I'd be able to slack I get called for IChO interview - which was seriously a waste of time - they were asking questions like why do you like chemistry / how did you come to like chemistry and stuff ._. - but at least it allowed me to miss cheng! and now I find out I'm going to turkey.
which means no more slacking. and mr lee seems all out to kill me with all the work he's giving to us.
crap.
so yeah I was supposed to be reading a few chapters of keeler and wothers tonight but yeah it was too hot and I spent about half an hour playing with the lights on my comp (yeah it has a lot of LEDs) so I just gave up.
this is a very very bad start to things. argh.
I need some form of motivation lol.
and I realised a whole bunch of my commitments will end up clashing in the end part of term 2 / early june.
oh no. and it's too late to pull out of most of them.
ok nevermind something will work out somehow. lol.
ok time to go sleep.

blah must not let this blog die.
and I should stop procrastinating whenever I feel like posting something. so there.
k let's see what's been going on - wednesday was an extremely boring day. but at least we're done with vectors I. problem is vectors II doesn't look like it'll be going any faster.
so weds was a very empty and rather boring day. I finally went for oneearth for the second time in the year though. they were electing! so bessie and I helped ask very fun questions. then we crashed the vote counting and there was quite a bit of drama. how fun.
oh and dell finally released the m11x r3. like one day after my previous post. now to get my mum to buy it for me XD.
ok that aside hmm wednesday was boring. thursday became friday. but cheng and ms poh both weren't in school so it wasn't that bad lol. plus there was no H3 so I ended at 220. yay.
but on thursday itself - mock spa was irritating. cos my NaOH bottle was leaking. so every time I tried to add some into the test-tubes it kept spilling over my hands and the test-tube rack and the table and all that. and the thing with NaOH is that it refuses to wash off your hands. and you can't quite wipe it off stuff either cos it just remains soapy and all that. plus if you have NaOH all over the place it ends up messing with your red litmus. so things got very irritating. thus ended up adding dil HNO3 / HCl (cos I was running out of HNO3) all over the place to get stuff off instead. which actually worked much better. and actually the dilute acids in the lab when you touch them they don't feel like anything. unlike the bases.
so by then it wasted quite a bit of time. then with the nitrogen compounds part of the experiment - basically you have a mess of solutions containing NH4+ / NO2- and NO3- and you have to identify which ones have which - everything involved heating the solutions. so the first solution I heated had NH4+ in it. so there was a LOT of NH3 evolved. which ended up turning all my red litmus papers (that I'd prepared and left on the bench as per wty's advice) blue ._. zzz.
by then I was so irritated that I couldn't bother driving off all the NH4+ in that tube so that I could test for nitrate so I just threw in Al foil inside and smelled it again.
lol.
for the next two test-tubes I heated both too much. so the NaOH + random solution mixture ended up spurting all over my hands. twice. so first one I put the test-tube down and went to wash my hands and whatnot. but after the second time I just couldn't be bothered and let it linger. cos really 100°C isn't all THAT hot. plus it was less than 1cm³ of solution anyway. and I had a pract to complete (by then I was really behind schedule - even kewei was ahead of me already). and really the more irritating bit is just the NaOH making everything feel soapy again. and thus messing with my red litmus papers. I think I used at least 25 pieces of those things during the mock SPA. so eventually I just gave up on testing for NH3 and used my nose instead.
it seems that I have some affinity for NaOH. or vice versa. but hey NaOH was still better than that NaBH4 disaster during the chemO pract. cos got quite a bit of anhydrous NaBH4 onto my skin during the pract without realising it. then after a while it started eating into the skin and whatnot. like it was actually stuck on my hands. ow.
also for this SPA they labelled the solutions FA0 1 2 and 3. so my FA1 test-tube was the one that spurted out and lost most of its contents thus I had to redo the test. but I was thinking of it as the SECOND test-tube thus I went to do everything with FA2 instead. which again messed me up quite abit. and resulted in me redoing everything and realising my mistake. oops.
then the organic QA since I was really rushing I just did what wty told us to do and identified by smell. then just a few confirmatory tests for the fun of it - Mg powder to the acid and 2,4-DNPH to the alcohol (in case my nose was failing me and it was actually a ketone - which it wasn't). then of course had to do iodoform test for the ketone / aldehyde / alcohol to get the structures (and I HOPE I didn't write triiodoform during the pract - which I have a strange feeling I did). so to expedite the iodoform test for the alcohol I stuck the test-tube in the flame for a bit (couldn't be bothered with the boiling water bath). which did expedite things a lot.
inorganic QA was rather fun and doable. just that sometimes you have to imagine a white ppt with Ca(OH)2. thus at the end of the whole thing since I rushed too much I discovered I had 10 minutes to spare. which basically entailed checking that everything I'd written was (largely) legible.
so after mock spa and all the washing up wty wanted to debrief us straightaway (i.e. scold people like pig who tried to cool a very hot test tube (after heating it and all that) by placing it in hot water. obviously it cracked ._.) thus when he finished his debrief the bell rang and we all hadn't cleaned up yet. so everyone was late for math and thus shangyi got rather irritated.
hmm so after friday ended I had nothing to do. so at about 230 went to the library and spent an hour and a half talking to random people inside (jem / yatyg / linsen / chew / wilbert / yap / chentian / stacey / guo). then at about 4 met the j1 mathRAs and decided to crash mathsoc interviews. lol. so ended up running errands (in mengshi's words) for them. which basically involved looking after the mathsoc j1s who were waiting outside for their interview. and of course "looking after" = playing cards. which we did until about 6+. then stayed back to talk to people and say hi to those who were going for the piano concert. then stalked shangyi with kang for a bit. then went home at 730. thus I wasted about 5 hours in school on thursday.
(not like I'd anything to do but still.)
yeah and my H3 finals are this monday! so I probably ought to start mugging.
hmm on friday I woke up at 1pm. then spent the day on the com reading random websites as usual. so didn't do much.
today I woke up at 1130. which was an improvement over yesterday. but spent most of today up to now watching stuff on youtube. and eating lunch.
now I'd probably go mug. bleh. but I'm pretty screwed for geopol anyway.
argh whatever.
and I should stop procrastinating whenever I feel like posting something. so there.

hongen says my blog is too dead.
so I shall post more often!
weather today was horrendous. was totally hot. and had chemO training in b53 at 1230pm with the aircon spoilt and all the windows closed. and it was after lunch no less. and I'd run out of water by then.
so fell asleep about 3 times. and couldn't really pay much attention. bleh. and was just counting down the time until it ended and I could get out of the classroom and into some fresh air. argh yeah it was that bad.
and the weather is still damn bloody hot now at 10pm.
but then again it also didn't help that I slept at 1am on monday.
lol.
ok what happened - monday PE got cancelled AGAIN so had a double free block. ate breakfast in the first one and thus wasn't hungry enough to eat again during the second one (which incidentally is the scheduled lunch block). so after that geog - which is really getting more and more boring but I keep forcing myself to go cos I know that there's still quite a bit of content that I haven't gotten to yet. and I'm too lazy to self-read of course. so just sit in tutorial and listen. and rot.
after geog was math lecture - CCP went as slowly as she always does. 7 lectures already and we're still not done with vectors I.
(not that I'm looking forward to vectors II especially since the only person whose geom is worse than mine is ziyang's but we're all getting bored of her already.)
after that was 1h30 of time-wasting in GP. spent half the lesson talking about globalisation of music and the other half was spent watching an admittedly decent documentary. but considering how most teachers are moving on to skills already and we've barely started on global issues...
then after GP ended had lunch at 3. lol. thankfully there was still food left.
went to the library and grabbed a few books after that - I'm finally working my way through the list of books I want to read lol. then redcross for an hour and then down to NUS.
reached NUS about 1740 then tutorial from 6pm to 8pm+++. boring.
and I realised how screwed I am for H3 considering that the bellcurve will be very steep since he's giving all the H3 students As and A-es. and I very certainly didn't get an A for the project I rushed in 3 hours and submitted 4 minutes before the (supposed) deadline. blah whatever.
so after that was done we got to the bus stop at 820 and got to buona vista at 840. reached compass point at 930 and again thankfully there was still food left. so had my dinner about then.
._.
then got home and stayed on the comp until 1am.
anyway the weekend - spent saturday / sunday slacking as expected. and sleeping late and waking up later. lol.
today - civics was ok physics lecture was bloody slow [thankfully it's a short topic and he's only taking 2 lectures] math tut was standard. then 2 blocks free cos PE got cancelled (yay) and we went to RI to eat. met eddie and said hi along the way.
then chemO training which I mentioned above already. then 2 more blocks free and then H3 chem.
which was bleh. astee talks very quickly but also about a lot of unnecessary things. so it ended late. ew. but not like most of us were paying attention anyway. was helping lzy come up with questions for his interact interview. and the whole bunch of 6I / 6L people (sans boonlay who self-excluded himself and yiyan who ponned and chew who was running) were talking the entire lecture about mainly random things. and helping ziyang make random GP-style questions. and we were right in front of her. (i.e. the first 2 rows of the front corner) - but don't think she minded much lol.
then after that home.
spent the night plotting redcross stuff again. and playing around with fireworks.
and my com is horribly slow.
blah.

412 / phew
finally done with all my H3 projects yesterday.
was kinda freaking out at about 2130 when I realised I had less than 3 hours to write 2k words. but thankfully managed to finish everything by 2355. although I felt that my writing got more incoherent the later it got.
so crashed at 1am and woke up 12 hours later. which felt good.
but then spent the rest of today doing absolutely nothing - with the H3 stuff all done and chemO (effectively) over already now I realised I don't have anything left.
and I don't have anything on me to read. (except textbooks and stuff. and I don't want to do any work any time soon). so I'm guessing I'll need to go down to the SFL on monday and grab more stuff. and borrow a movie.
lol.
then eventually I'll get round to sorting through my notes. and maybe start mugging. but that's a very distant possibility.
and maybe I should finally start considering scholarships and universities and all that. and maybe sign up for SATs and everything. and perhaps actually prepare for once.
hmm.
but not so soon.
maybe that's why I'm blogging now - cos I'm way too free.
ok so what's happened between the 12th and today:
chemO pract on weds was rather a disaster cos I went to fake results but made a huge error in writing the equation so the faking messed up. rather badly. oops.
thursday was rather boring - but by then I was already freaking out over my H3 stuff so wasn't paying much attention to what was happening in school and all that. so just rushed home when I could and worked.
but then I got distracted halfway again. so pushed things to friday with rather disastrous consequences.
friday - chem pract was funny cos wty had us identify the 4 organic compounds by smell first. and then the actual pract only took less than an hour. so since he didn't want to let us go for breakfast we spent the other hour watching cooking shows.
weird but still the images were very good. and we were all very hungry after that.
and it took my mind off h3 for a while.
so after everything ended rushed home and did work continuously until 11pm. which was quite an achievement. [ok fine I got distracted by youtube from 6 to 7 but whatever]. so sent off the first assignment at about 540. got distracted went for dinner and finally finished watching fahrenheit 9/11 at about 9+. and then freaked out again when I realised I had less than 3 hours to write 2k words on 2 films and link everything to geopolitics. plus I was rather sleepy by then.
so wasn't actually making much sense in the assignment - hope that he buys whatever I write though. just that yeah now that I think about it I could have elaborated and explained a lot more on whatever I was talking about. but then again half the module is taken by engineers so let's hope that my writing doesn't look too bad compared to theirs XD. so managed to complete that one (with quite a bit of help from bryan in summarising and editing XD) and sent it off just before midnight.
yay.
so today woke up at 1pm and had lunch ._.
then spent the rest of the day reading blogs and politics online. and eating and being very sedentary in general.
this is so not good if I want to pass my NAPFA the next time around.
meh.

crap I am damn screwed for H3.
basically got a class response and an individual project which together make up 40% of my final grade. both of which I haven't quite started on.
so the individual project was originally due yesterday but the deadline got shifted to this friday instead - which has given me some / quite a bit of breathing space. just that it's caused me to spend the entire past weekend slacking.
and now I realise all I have left is today night, tomorrow night (after chemO pract no less) and thursday evening to finish everything. and maybe friday if I skip CCA. which I really shouldn't be doing. but still.
and yeah now I'm blogging. yay.
hmm so what's happened since I last posted about 6 days ago - hmm the 7th passed without much incidence since I (somewhat) sneakily took it off facebook. lol. and I was really bored in school on that day since there wasn't much to stay back for. so just ended up loitering about until about 4pm. then went home and did nothing.
friday was rather uneventful as well - just tiring but then that's quite normal. saturday went down to school for some oneearth stuff which surprisingly went along rather productively. sunday was normal and monday was very very slack since I didn't have anything for protected time and no PE hence my first block started at 1140 ._.
yeah so these few days were rather free.
and now I'm paying for all the slacking that I've done.
ok off to continue with more geopolitics.
yuck.

blah scholarship fair today got me thinking about what I'm going to do about my life.
realised that there are so many different opportunities / scholarships / career paths / universities and courses out there. as compared to the past where everything was simple enough and / or laid out in front for me already - like going to RI / RJ; subject combi (even though it seemed very tough then actually the choice now looks quite obvious) and even things like enrichment programmes and competitions and all the other random stuff that I do - there really wasn't much of a choice lol.
and now it seems like there are so many different options to pick from - and I have no idea what to do. (well definitely not engineering or law or architecture though). each of which has its own characteristics and sets of pros and cons and whatnot - and all of which hold massive ramifications for / and will definitely end up shaping and influencing the next 4 - 6 years. at least. I mean each option does seem as fulfilling as the next. and all are equally plausible right now. hmm maybe I should just apply to every single stat board and whatnot and see what I can get.
so really it's like my life is at some sort of crossroads right now (ok fine many many many crosses and intersections. yuck this reminds me of vectors) and every path that I can take well leads somewhere that I don't know yet. oh fine I haven't actually reached that point yet still have 2.5 more terms of school to clear. but you get the drift. and need to start making some decisions soon.
*resists the urge to quote robert frost here*. especially since ALL the roads are not very taken. hmm.
also the thing is I realised I'm totally unprepared for what lies ahead - I have no idea of what to do / what I want to do. and of course of how things will turn out. so there's not much of a path laid out before me or anything. which is a bit scary. or overwhelming.
blah ok shall deal with it when the time comes to it.

hmm realised I haven't posted in quite a bit so shall update now (although I doubt people still read this thing):
chemO selection was a disaster - messed up the easiest question as well as both the organic ones. but whatever what's done is done and anyway there are other things I ought to bother myself with (refer to the list in the previous post). plus considering what lies ahead in the next few years (see above if you haven't already).
after chemO it was well a strange period of calm whatever - in a sense this feeling of emptiness (but not at all in a bad sense) - that it's all over and you're done - perhaps relief? or satisfaction? (but I know I should have done better). or just plain exhaustion from the whole thing itself.
well I think I've had enough chem to last me until the end of the year. if not longer.
so well yeah that lasted until about friday when the realities of my dire H3 situation started kicking in. so the assignment that's 25% of the grade is due on the 11th (i.e. IN FIVE DAYS TIME) and although I was supposed to spend monday and tuesday doing it / or at least getting started on it I haven't at all.
bah.
and I still have no idea what geopolitics is.
yeah so really thursday and friday were like a blur. edit: well fine it wasn't that slack - immediately after chemO cheng wanted us to do the GP CT [bring home and write and submit on thursday] so spent the night doing the planning and wrote most of it during first block. then took the geog CT in the afternoon (spent most of thursday's lessons trying to mug for it lol). so my hand died quite badly. and after that I kinda just crashed.
and at least I woke up at noon on friday. just remembered that there was no school. oops.
then saturday was gc finals. and they won. (more convincingly this time around though). so there's this whole sense of deja vu all over again. lol. quite happy for them seeing how everything did pay off in the end. just slightly worried about next year's batch. but that's like what how many months away? (hopefully I won't be in NS by then though).
ah yes so after saturday (also when I ate way too much during lunch and the dinner reception and at ice cream with OWL and clement after that) when I got home damn late and everything (plus I left the house at 7am! oh and did I mention I got a free trip to the zoo lol) I was quite dead. so spent sunday recovering.
hmm spent sunday night rushing cheng's holiday homework. (ugh) so slept at 1am.
then the next day got back the human part of geog CT (8.5 + 10) - we suspect the 8.5 is cos as a matter of principle she refuses to give anyone full marks for an essay. and 10 was cos I couldn't be bothered to do LORMS so just spammed points. so didn't manage to hit L3. which was kinda sad. but then the essay wasn't so good either so whatever. at least it's still an A.
monday was NAPFA as well. BBCDDE lol. (and actually the E wasn't really an E but she took sympathy on me and rounded up the 1.8 pull ups to 2). well fine it'd be BBCDDfail if they take the age as of april 8 or something. but since the test was on april 4... and considering that we did 5 stations after 2.4 (and I managed to get a C for that one ?!) it's quite ok. especially for my standards. so all I need to do now is to treble the number of pull ups I can do and then I'm not going in early.
then rest of monday was uneventful. just that monday night was spent chionging that irritating presentation for civics from 1230am to 1am. ok fine that actually counts as tuesday. whatever.
tuesday was also rather boring. especially both chem lectures. ew.
and today was as bad (just that I was less sleep-deprived this time around considering how I slept at about 10pm on tuesday). just that there were too many free blocks. and physics tutorials are seriously just the slackest things around.
1 more hour!
wonder if I'll be able to stay up till then.
I feel old.

409 / not gonna make it
hmm saturday was mock geotrail. quite fun. just that went to ngee ann city / taka way too early to actually do anything. plus they were damn slow so I waited for VERY long outside the fountain. and helped quite a few tourists take photos ._.
meh.
then went down to sultan mosque - got lost on the way cos I forgot to look very closely at the map. but managed to deadhead there eventually lol. although it was damn bloody hot. but then the arab street area is quite nice. and food there was good lol.
sec3 geogRA kids seem pretty decent though.
then after that ended up panicking cos I was worried I couldn't get back down to school in time for PSC urgh. so cabbed down (total waste of money) and got there way too early.
zzz.
psc profiling was an utter waste of time. plus I was damn sleepy.
meh.
sunday didn't actually do anything.
so yeah I'm rather screwed now (if you haven't already inferred from the title of this post).
[decided to cut out the bit about chemO cos you've heard it way too many times and most probably wouldn't care either. meh. just know that I'm way screwed.]
just too tired (or lazy?) to do much at the moment.
and after chemO selection need to finish the GP CT at home to submit to cheng the next day ._. and also on thurs will be taking geog CT ._.
then friday is a grundy-warr marathon. urgh. and seriously the tutorials are a total waste of time. so like the only thing I've learnt is content (which is quite good but still...). and totally have no idea how I'm gonna do the final exam. meh.
then after friday need to do all the h3 assignments (40% bleh). and I think he doesn't like me. plus they require research and irritating things like papers so things are looking pretty bleak as well.
also got all of cheng's holiday homework due the following monday. and math CT on monday as well.
well after 23rd april at least I'm free of some of this bs.
if I can even get that far.
doubt I'll do very well this wednesday but whatever kinda expected it anyway.
---
THINGS TO DO AFTER GEOPOL / CHEM O ENDS [in order of the likelihood that I'll actually do them]
- watch return of the king
- rearrange urban package (to get rid of the useless readings)
- FILE all my notes (since my bag is asploding again. and I think I need a separate file for h3 and h2 chem)
- do something about my physical geog notes (which somehow got bound when OWL was zapping them)
- SLA spatial challenge!
- read atmo, weather and climate (good book but damn dry so I keep getting bored of it plus I don't even have any time)
- read urban geog book (ditto)
- play a lot more bridge
- start thinking about uni apps
- scholarship apps?
- read the (short) list of fiction that I've put on my phone to remind myself to borrow (eventually)
- write proper human geog notes
meh.

then after friday need to do all the h3 assignments (40% bleh). and I think he doesn't like me. plus they require research and irritating things like papers so things are looking pretty bleak as well.
also got all of cheng's holiday homework due the following monday. and math CT on monday as well.
well after 23rd april at least I'm free of some of this bs.
if I can even get that far.
doubt I'll do very well this wednesday but whatever kinda expected it anyway.

- write proper human geog notes

one more week.
and I keep falling asleep while trying to mug in the library ._.
so in the past 4 hours I've only finished 2 chapters of clayden.
(well fine I took about 45 min for breakfast and then about an hour facebooking / updating firefox.)
and RI-WLAN keeps disconnecting me.
meh.
this is very bad.
so like for 3 days already I've been getting to school at 7 and trying (key word here is trying) to keep myself in the SFL to mug chem.
which hasn't really been succeeding. as you might be able to tell.
and of course over the past month or so I've forgotten most if not all of my organic already.
and the org question is the one that's gonna kill me / differentiate. considering all the physical topics are just...
whatever at least I get to skip CTs. (especially GP). just that apparently chem was rather fun.
ok whatever back to clayden.
and then to bridge later on XD.
shall attempt to attempt a few spectro problems this afternoon.
hmm.

hmm haven't reached home before 9pm any time this week.
and they call this the holidays lol.
also I was supposed to be doing my h3 assignments and / or prepping for chemO selection. and yet I did neither. bleh.
[non-rc people can skip the part below you most likely won't get it lol]
got dragged into something that burnt most of weds thurs and fri. a lost cause perhaps. so actually it was none of my business.
but then again maybe it was entirely my business considering that I didn't do anything about it the whole of this year up till now.
but question is: is this even my responsibility in the first place?
also next question: why do I even continue to come back when I don't have to?
maybe it's the sense of belonging / attachment / responsibility that I have for this current batch of sec4s. and for the unit at large. or maybe it's just cos it's payback for my not having done much in sec3 or sec4 then. or perhaps it's also because I have nothing better to do with my life and I'm just bored and need something to do so might as well go do something meaningful [well to me at least]. or all of the above.
but after these 2 years when I look back what will I see / what would have I done?
did I really make that much of a difference lol.
I have no idea.
[ok the rest of you can continue reading from below]
I am in a sense a relic; someone who's past his time.
someone still clinging on to things that have long gone / that should have been let go off a long time ago.
so in a sense I guess I've been feeling very out-of-place these few days - not really fitting in into the present, be it in RJ or RI: the former since I never really was part of it in the first place (and/or since it's really a very short phase and I haven't fully had the chance to get used to it yet. well actually I have in some/most regards but then for things like the culture and whatnot - not really) and for the latter since things have changed so much since I left. bah.
so I just go about my life lingering on in a place that I shouldn't even be in.
while the rest of the world moves on.
yeah I'm damn sleepy now so apologies if this doesn't make sense.

hmm I have this feeling my com won't survive the month. lol.
and singtel really hates me. and vice versa.
but then again the internet is in a sense just a distraction and perhaps a means of escaping from the world at large. especially when all one does when one gets home is to just go on the com and stay there the whole night [as almost everyone does nowadays]. but then again it's also perhaps at the same time still a means of interaction with the world at large - and perhaps also exposes us to new areas / perspectives that we wouldn't otherwise be able to see (or at least not that easily lol). so maybe it's just doing what books did for an earlier generation. and maybe that's why I spend most of my time on wiki and stuff like nytimes.com. but yeah at the same time it's still perhaps an avenue away from the real world for most people. I think.
hmm but fiction does the same thing. so I'm not too sure.
but then the internet / the computer does tend to make us more distracted and less able to focus. yeah so those criticisms do hold. and perhaps what's more worrying is not the amount of time we spend online but rather this whole internet culture - to quote an NYT opinion piece I read not too long ago "[the internet can] bring out the worst in people. You’re straining after eyeballs, not big thoughts. So you go for the shallow, funny, contrarian or cynical."
also consider this:
"Why would I engage with people digitally whom I would never engage with actually? Why does the technology exonerate the kind of foul expression that you would not tolerate anywhere else?"
stomp is damn irritating.

ugh this is turning into a GP essay. just that I'm too lazy to string the arguments together so I'm just throwing stuff here and letting you connect the dots.
was at bridge camp today. was rather fun. but at the same time also kinda regret that I missed so much of bridge last year. so like it felt that this camp was also in a sense my camp ._.
I kinda messed up my CCAs last year lol. thanks to spending too much time at RI side. hmm. worth it? I dunno.
and of course it doesn't help that I haven't played bridge in about a month thanks to chemO and H3. and that some j1s are quite possibly already better than me.
lalala.
and this is weird I keep getting this sense of regret about not having done enough in j1. and I never got this feeling before / about any other year. maybe cos jc life seems particularly short. and maybe cos I wasted too much of it. or maybe cos it's my last year now so like inevitably I'm looking back and reflecting and all that. or maybe cos I really did mess up.
hmm who knows?
holidays are going to be quite horrible. need to mug for chemO selection (and odds that I do get in are less than 50-50 I think). plus complete the h3 coursework. and even after 7 out of 13 lectures I am still in no position to sit for the final exam - the questions are still rather incomprehensible. and I don't think I've learnt anything yet. argh. and still got all sorts of miscellany like reading geog books and rc stuff and mugging for CTs. blah.
but first I need to catch up on my sleep.
and stop procrastinating.
yay for conflicting objectives.
and singtel really hates me. and vice versa.

hmm must not let the blog die.
lol.
although I liked the previous post. especially the title. and I can't seem to come up with a decent title for this post.
argh it's already the wednesday of week 10.
so stuff to do over the hols
bridge camp fri/sat
chemO training at NIE mon/tues
h3 class response
h3 project [ugh]
mug for chemO selection
at least no CTs for me. yay.
but then again it's not like there's a lot to mug this time around - physics is just the usual round of definitions / formulae; chem is chem; math just need to revise the older pure math topics (summation - ugh); geog - human go grab points and examples while physical it's just everything that's been done this year. no irritating trivia on water management and conflicts and whatnot [which is in a sense good since I missed that set of lectures last year. plus it most likely won't appear this year for As anyway].
argh have an irritating headache now. which is probably why I'm not being very coherent at the moment.
neil gaiman is surprisingly good.
[yes I've managed to find time to read stuff like that when I still have clayden / shriver and atkins / keeler and wothers lying unread all over the house. plus an atmo book and some urban geog book]
tired.
shall sleep early for once.
lol.

hmm seems like I'm the only one in class who still blogs.
spent the whole of today doing nothing. as usual.
even though there's so much that I should be doing / so many books just waiting to be read. and most of them need to be read. like for chem and H3 and all that. argh.
just re-skinned the blog. when I should have been doing work.
argh whatever.

A level results came out yesterday.
a reminder, in a sense, of how much [or rather how little] time we have left before it's our turn; of what's just around the corner this november.
yep we're next in line. and march 2011 doesn't seem very far away now.
also we seem to do better every year.
so of course the next question is - can we deliver?
and that one I'm not too sure. I just don't feel good enough - get this feeling that I'll mess up something (be it GP or PW). and of course I doubt I'll get 8 distinctions let alone 7 (thanks to chinese + h3. seriously a research project with kamal or even graph theory looks like a better choice now).
but then again does it matter if I mess up - 1. there's always others to take my place and 2. well there's always backups right. I still haven't really decided what I want to do with my life. and I guess well yeah I'd be slightly disappointed at first [ok who am I kidding] but then I'll settle into something else and be content there. as is what usually happens. and seriously wouldn't mind teaching [in RI / RJ of course] if it comes to that. lol.
if I mess up As / the rest of this year / scholarship and uni apps and all that - which is after all rather [highly] possible, especially for the last one - would it be a case of wasted talent? or does it not matter - if you happen to screw up then so be it. I'm inclined towards the latter right now.
I seem to have this total lack of ambition / be too easily contented and accept things as they are / not really bother or care about these things. but then again is all that a bad thing?
I dunno. maybe things are just meant to be this way.
whatever. we'll see when we get there [which isn't very far away actually. oops].
---
bah really felt like doing something today. like had quite a bit of excess energy in the system. but then all the reading seemed too dry and boring. and couldn't think of anything else to distract myself with [usually would have a project of some sort to work on - be it creating something for RC or coming up with stuff for the GC kids - but strangely nothing today].
and of course this portends badly for tomorrow afternoon.
maybe I'll start on chem. or that irritating h3 project.
but somehow I doubt it.
---
was wondering again - what kind of person am I?
or rather: how do people see me / what am I to others?
have I managed to make a difference / some semblance of an impact on others or am I just known for say chem and igeo and all that and that's it?
as this part of my life draws to a close and I look back - what do I see?
I've left quite a bit of myself behind [or so I think] but I don't know how much of that has been felt. hmm.
did I matter?
---
blah as you can see I've been very introspective / emo (?) these days. and a lot more tired and whatnot.
I'm so getting old.
urgh.
or maybe it's just this realisation that time's running out and my time's almost over now - there's not much left to do except mug for As. and move on. and I'm not yet ready to / I don't want to move on? urgh this sense inertia is irritating.
nailed it?
nah there's also something else. that I can't seem to lay a finger on.
nevermind maybe it'll appear in another post.
nb. and reading fantasy and whatnot (i.e. LOTR) isn't helping one bit. as in a sense it's a means of escape from the real world [which I so don't want to face up to at this time]. and not to mention a very powerful distraction. oops.

WARNING: largely incoherent post follows.
hmm it just struck me today that it's been 5 years already.
which actually is a very long time. and quite a large part of my life actually.
but doesn't seem that long though. seems like all these 5 years just flew past.
and now it's march already - looking back jan and feb are just a blur and now time is running by faster than ever [why?!] and before I know it I'll be out of school.
so the feeling that I'm getting now is like when you're at the last chapter of a very long novel and there's only a few pages left and you know it's almost the end and you're trying to read as slowly as possible to make the novel / plot last just a little bit longer. but then as always it's never long enough.
or you're in a movie and most of the action is past and you know it's going to end but you don't want it to - but then it does.
blah. only 8 more months. can't quite believe it now - it feels kinda surreal that I've spent 5 years in RI already; that it's almost over and most of it's already behind me and there's so little time left.
and I'm almost 18 already.
plus I'm feeling more tired / worn-out [read: old] than I ever did - that I no longer have as much energy [?] as I used to a few years back, that now I can't do as much as I did back then. so it's like I'm having less drive / interest / willpower? to do things now. and also I'm not doing as much as I used to do. but at the same time feeling more exhausted than I ever did / used to be.
basically just weary.
and perhaps apathetic. but then apathetic doesn't quite capture the whole idea of things. bah. tired I guess. and worn-out.
and also perhaps this feeling that well the best times / years are already past and what's left is just [can't get the word here] - well you know what I mean. just the remnants / shreds of the past. or whatever.
and no rest for me until t2w3 earliest [i.e. after chemO selection test]. or after gc on 2nd april. or maybe in may after geopol's done [yeah that one's causing me undue stress as well cos really I doubt I'll get a distinction or whatever]. or maybe after prelims. or after my uni apps are done.
you get the idea.
feel kinda stretched; stretched thin.
and yet at the same time I'm not as overcommitted as I was in '09 or '10.
but not exactly burnt out.
yet.
and somehow I found 3 hours today to watch the two towers in the SFL.
and almost done reading return of the king [for the 3rd time already].
oops.
yeah somaybe I've brought the stress upon myself thanks to my wonderful prioritising / time management skills.
but yeah at the same time things are going by way too quickly - to use a very clichéd metaphor it feels like what's left of this year is like sand slipping out of your hands.
meh.
[oh and LOTR makes me rather emo and introspective so that kinda accounts for some of the writing in this post. lol.]

oh man I'm falling sick during CHINESE new year.
blah.
3 days of the 5 day break gone. and I'm so getting used to waking up at 11am every day. damn.
and haven't gotten any work done as usual. nevermind at least I can blame that on my falling sick. [but then I've managed to finish fellowship in a day again ._.]
oops.
and once sunday's gone it's back to the monotony again. meh.
just more crowded though.
j1s year5s are irritating.

blah 've been quite depressed these few days thinking about life afterdeath school - can't believe that this'll be my last year in RI/RJ [and like I so miss RI life]. plus there's this huge cloud of uncertainty hanging over me - NS [argh] and uni / scholarship applications [meh] - no idea what to do about them / what I'm gonna do in uni / where to go to / what to do after uni. so these questions make things kinda stressful. plus you have things like CT1 / prelims which I'm quite certain of messing up [especially thanks to GP]. and why did I even take H3 geo in the first place. blah. and of course there's this general feeling of inadequacy / that I'm not good enough and that I'll screw things up [my essay-writing skills are crap really. as can be seen from this blog lol. and my transcripts/records aren't all that spectacular either]. and that I won't get into (insert university name here) and/or I'll mess things up after I get in / won't be able to compete and all that. so in a sense there's this fear that well I'm not as good as I used to be / as I'm supposed to be / as I thought I'd be / as what everyone else sees of me. well this is the real world I guess. time to get out of the system [and move on into another one ._.] so as always things will come to pass and we'll see how things go when we get there. but still that doesn't help the worrying for now.
meh.
blah.
3 days of the 5 day break gone. and I'm so getting used to waking up at 11am every day. damn.
and haven't gotten any work done as usual. nevermind at least I can blame that on my falling sick. [but then I've managed to finish fellowship in a day again ._.]
oops.
and once sunday's gone it's back to the monotony again. meh.
just more crowded though.

yes I'm posting again. why exactly I'm not sure - guess I'm just bored lol.
anyway I managed 17 posts last year - hopefully I'll do better this time around ._. and the post count has been inching towards 400 the whole of last year. asymptotically.
school's the usual - things are going on as if we've never left lol. but thankfully none of that urgency about As as yet. but I'm kinda worried about CT1 [read: GP]. meh.
speaking of things that never change - just when we thought we could start slacking for chem [heck astee's pace for lecture is considered relaxing ok] - we get more spam. yay. and my organic is still as horrible as ever. meh.
but surprisingly enough I'm putting in more work this year - i.e. I actually do some tutorials [chem / math but not physics of course]. and I'm back to reading non-fiction - i.e. chem and geog [but they're awfully boring though]. but again that leaves me with no time to read the fiction I want to. [I have a whole list on my phone]. and I must finish watching the LOTR films argh.
yay for distractions.
h3s are another horrible thing. geopol is totally iffy and fluffy and not very geographical yet. but at least the content knowledge / subject matter is fun. but I don't have a very good feeling about the grade I'm gonna get ._. well at least I get to pon GP [or rather part of it]. but then it's causing me to miss bridge. and I wanted to play more bridge this year [and actually get it up to scratch for once]. oh well.
but anyway school life is getting boring. and repetitive. and it's gonna get crowded once the year5s get orientated and start flooding the canteen again. year5s are annoying. and noisy. and dumb. and take up too much space. ugh.
and I should have spent the past 2 hours doing work.
whatever.
old habits die hard.
XD
edit: oh and I realised I'm the only one in the class who still blogs.
meh.
